These are my own personal beliefs concerning death from this physical realm.
I believe in the process of reincarnation. However, I believe that regardless of whether one is incarnated again there is a portion of the individual that we knew and were that remains constant. While the soul itself moves on through the karmic circuit and reincarnates, the identity of a given lifetime, which I refer to as the soulface, remains within our contact. At death these segments of the soul separate, the soul moves on and the soulface remains attached to this world but residing on the other side of the veil. It is for this reason that mediums can contact the personalities that we knew even if they are incarnated in another body at present. This allows us to contact and communicate with the portion of the soul that we knew and loved, without undue confusion over the various other lives that soul has lived. In many cases the soulface remains tied to an area which was significant to them. It is their anchor between the two worlds in which they live. At times, the soulface is attached not to a specific area but rather to a specific person or persons. This isn't a bondage or punishment necessarily. The soulface most closely identifies with the area or person that they are bonded to and find themselves crossing the veil there when they enter our world. In the days of old when the soulface or spirit of the ancestor was honored regularly they had a greater impact and frequency of contact. This leads me to believe that the more energy that is directed to them, the more bonds they form to this world. As people forget them and time passes and all that the individual personality knew changes or is lost, the soulface wanes in it's presence here in the material world. The bonds they have to this side of the veil are weaker and less appealing, until finally they do not visit here any longer. This explains the concept of "feeding the dead" which has been a part of some cultures and beliefs. By "feeding" them, we strengthen their bond to ourselves and we honor the impact they have on our lives. I believe that the soulface continues to pass its experiences and learnings on to the entire soul of the entity to which it is a smaller piece. Thus, our eternal soul learns from our various incarnations, and the afterlives of those incarnations.

When you think about it, it starts to make a little sense. How often do we hear tales of ghosts or apparitions attached to certain homes, roadsides, barns, or woodland areas. There is often a central area or location that the "apparitions" appear in and frequent. That area is the anchor that they have in this world. The tales of angry and frightened ghosts I believe are individuals who are working out karma for the incarnation which they were or are upset at the weakening of their anchors and the ease with which they were forgotten and neglected.
